2/29: Raindeer

Ah'm worried - this must be another one of Toots’ tests.

But Ah simply don’t understand. She usually provides training and a lecture ahead of time. Ah’m not sure Ah’m ready for this…

It was just a normal day until Ah was put into my cage. Ah was relieved when Le Toots came up to the bars, but then she whispered "Good luck on your vacation." What's a vaykaytion?! Ah was then put inside the auto machine for upwards of what felt like 28 hours.

We finally stopped and went inside a new house that was very different. The smells were different. The colors were different. The noises were different. And then there was this strange animal stuck in the wall. Ah heard Red Beard call it a raindear, but whatever it was, it never blinked. It wouldn't even tell me it's name, even when Ah nervously introduced myself. So, Ah guess Ah'll just call that rude raindeer Rudeolph.

Soon Ah started to get used to all the different. The house even had an inside fire! Must be some kind of magic because Ah've only ever seen them outside. Ah asked Rudeolph how it works but he just stared at me.

There were all sorts of new blankies to warm up with and a nice comfy couch to rest on. All of which helped me relax beside the cozy magic fire.

Bedtime was difficult though since Ah couldn’t sleep from all the thoughts in my head. Luckily, Mum and Red Beard left their bedroom door open, so Ah was able to ask them my questions all night:

“Where are we? Have Ah been bad? Where is Toots? Has she been bad? Why is there a fire inside? Will that raindear ever go to sleep? Where should Ah sleep? Can Ah sleep with you?

And before Ah knew it, it was morning!

Its a new day with new explorations to be had! Just like my house, Ah can look out from a porch. On this one, Ah could see a lake with geese! Too bad the big birds were so far away or else we could be friends. For now, Ah'm still trying to figure out how to communicate with Rudeolph the Raindear.

While exploring the porch, Ah finally discovered where Mum and Red Beard had taken me:

"God's Country"

Oh no! Did Ah die and go to Cat Heaven? At least in Cat Heaven my Mum and Red Beard are with me! Wait, did they die too? How terrible!

Ah have so many questions again but Ah'm not quite sure Ah want to know the answers... but, if Ah'm right, it means that Lé Toots outlived us all. Hopefully she remembers to tuck BunBun the Bunny in every night before bed. Ah will miss you BunBun!

But before Ah new it, Ah was back home and comfortable again. Ah'm fairly confident Ah didn't dream the trip to God's Country. If Ah'm actually home it must mean one thing: we are alive!

Experiences like these make me grateful for the ordinary. From my own porch to BunBun to even Toots' training, I missed all of it! Ah think my sissy even missed me.

The good news is that Ah understand vaycaytions now. When is the next one?
